BIOGRAPHY
With a deep passion for public service and public libraries, Jonathan Beutler has been a PVLD Trustee since the 2022 election and is currently serving as the President of the Board of Trustees. The role of Trustee is a non-partisan position to which candidates are elected by the voters in the local communities that make up the District's service area.
Jonathan's passion for public libraries runs deep and began early; in fact, his first job as a teenager was at the information desk of his local library! Previously, Jonathan served as County Library Commissioner, appointed by unanimous vote of the County's Board of Supervisors. Earlier, he also served as a County Beach Commissioner in Los Angeles County, representing the coastal communities of the Fourth District.
A former U.S. diplomat, Jonathan has broad experience in both the public and private sectors, in various capacities. In addition to having served in the United States Department of State, he has worked in the local South Bay business community for many years, having served as Chairman of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce and President of the Harbor City Harbor Gateway Chamber of Commerce, in addition to his service on various nonprofit boards as well as an active volunteer in local schools. He has built strong relationships across civic, business, and nonprofit sectors, fostering collaboration and economic growth. Committed to serving the public good, Jonathan leverages his expertise to advance community programs, promote local business development, and strengthen connections between government and the community.
Jonathan holds graduate degrees in Public Policy from UCLA and in Spanish Literature from the University of Barcelona, and has pursued further education at Temple University Japan and National Taiwan University. He completed fellowships with the Anti-Defamation League, the German Marshall Fund, and the U.S.-Spain Council. Committed to bridge-building, he has long been committed to promoting stronger ties between diverse countries and communities.
Jonathan and his family enjoy travel, youth sports, church service, and are proud to call the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula and South Bay region "home"!
